Great grandfather Alfred Coe wrote a list of the descendants of Robert Dickson and in this stated "...Julia Benoist married MY GREAT GRANDFATHER A. C. Smith" and "my GRANDFATHER married Dorothy Ruth Cote". The only A.C. Smith I can find was born in 1861 (Alfred Coe was born 1867). I do not know who Alfred's father was, and thought this might be a line to him but now, am wondering if he claims this kinship through his stepfather Rev. Daniel Renville, or his mother Josette Aungie. Can anyone help me sort this out? Additional info Rev. Alfred Coe was the son of Josette Aungie, whose parents were Henry Aungie or Ange and Mary Dickson(daughter of Robert Dickson and Helen Totowin) Just learned this was bogus info-Rev Coe is no relation to AC smith. 5/22/2012

Rev. Coe's wife is enrolled here at Spirit Lake Dakota Nation (Formerly Devils Lake Sioux Tribe). I have her enrollment number at home. You could call the Reality office in Ft. Totten:701-766-4130.

I have that Rev. Alfred N. Coe was maried at least 3 times: Nettie Buisson,d/o Antoine Buisson and Ms. McNair(or McNeil?).Nettie died @ 1902 in childbirth,as well as the child. he was also wed to Ms. May and she died @1900. His third wife was Ms. Reed with whom they had 2 children, a daughter and a son.
I am a bit confused, because I have that Alfred Coe was Rev. Alfred N. Coe's father, and Josette Aungie was his mother. Alfred's maternal gr.father was Antoine Buisson who lived at Devils lake Res., and grandmother was the McNair woman. Antoine's parents were Joseph Buisson and Nancy Mary Lucy Graham.
I would sure like to see this 'Descendents of Robert Dixon" list. ______ Oops! i apologizefor misleading you. I meant Nettie Buisson's parents were Antoine Buisson and Rachel mcnair(or mcNeil?). Antoine's parents were Joseph Buisson and Nancy Lucy "Mary" Graham. Reference re. Alfred's marriage to Nettie is Heirship Report of Paul Abraham,1918(BIA Records). He was also married to Annette May.she died in childbirth ,and both she and the child are buried in Knox,NE Yes Alfred's mother was Josette aungie, the puzzle is in re. to who was his father.

Thanks for all the replies!
To hermin1:
Im a bit confused my self! Through family knowledge, backed up by census records etc I know that Rev A Coe's mother was Josette Aungie, dau of Henry Aungie and Mary Dickson (dau of Robert Dickson and Totwin). You state that Rev Coe married 3x-1st to Nettie Buisson-then state that her father was Rev Coe's maternal grand father-do you mean father in law? Or are you saying Alfred Coe Sr(the Rev's father) was married to Nettie Buisson? I have knowledge of only one marriage for the Rev Alfred-that to Violet Reed and their son was Robert Coe and his son is my father-in-law.

There is quite a bit about Alred Coe in this ebook--an interview. Unfortunately, his own biographical statement is not complete in the ebook version. tinyurl.com/7hy6f8g

I just came back from the Reality Office here at Ft. Totten. 303-1132 Nettie Buisson - Feb.15, 1868 - May 3, 1900 Daughter of Antoine and Rachel Buisson. Married Alfred N. Coe in Devils Lake, ND on June 21, 1899. She gave birth to one child who died soon after, followed by the mother (Nettie). Buisson is pronounced here as Bee-san. The probate file was very thin as she didn't own any land.
